Transformative Education: 25 Years of Canção Nova Institute Shaping Generations in Faith

A quarter century ago, in the lands of Cachoeira Paulista, a dream began to take shape in the hands of Father Jonas Abib. Moved by a vision that extended beyond church walls, he planted a simple seed: an oratory to welcome the children of the community. Like the tiny mustard seed in Jesus' parable, that modest initiative grew beyond any human expectation. The Canção Nova Institute didn't emerge as a grand project from the beginning, but as a response to a concrete need of local families, demonstrating how God often works through seemingly small gestures to accomplish great transformations.

Transformative Education: 25 Years of Canção Nova Institute Shaping Generations in Faith

Throughout these 25 years, we've witnessed how this educational work expanded organically, always maintaining its central purpose: to form whole persons—body, mind, and spirit. The Salesian pedagogy, with its focus on reason, religion, and kindness, found fertile ground in this project, adapting to the Brazilian reality while preserving its Christian essence. As the apostle Paul teaches us:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2, NIV)
This biblical passage precisely reflects the Institute's goal – to form people capable of transforming the world around them, beginning with the renewal of their own minds and hearts.

Holistic Education: Forming Men and Women for a New World

The Canção Nova Institute has developed over the years an educational approach that integrates faith, knowledge, and practical life. It's not just about transmitting information, but about forming character, developing talents, and cultivating Christian values that last a lifetime. The education offered goes beyond classrooms, permeating all activities and relationships within the school community. This holistic vision of human formation echoes Scripture, which reminds us of the importance of training new generations in the Lord's way.

Many alumni testify how this formation prepared them not only academically, but especially for the challenges of adult life. Stories like that of Henrique, who returned as a teacher after graduating, illustrate the virtuous cycle that was established: students who become educators, perpetuating the values they received. Entire families found in this institution a safe and welcoming environment for their children's development, where Christian faith isn't a separate subject, but the foundation of the entire educational process.

The Family's Role in Christian Education

The partnership between school and family has always been an essential pillar at the Canção Nova Institute. Recognizing that parents are the first and primary educators of their children, the institution seeks to walk alongside families, offering support and guidance. This collaboration reflects the biblical teaching about parents' responsibility in their children's spiritual formation:

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” (Proverbs 22:6, NIV)
The Institute understands that its mission complements, but doesn't replace, the irreplaceable role of the family in transmitting faith and Christian values.

From Basic Education to Higher Learning: A Continuous Journey

As a natural extension of the work developed at the Institute, the Canção Nova College emerged, expanding the reach of this educational project. This expansion demonstrates a deep understanding that Christian formation doesn't end with high school graduation, but should accompany young people through all stages of their development. The continuity between different educational levels allows for coherent and integrated formation, where values cultivated since childhood are deepened and matured. This comprehensive approach responds to the call to form complete disciples, prepared to serve in all spheres of society with solid faith and authentic commitment.
