Canção Nova, a Catholic community known for its evangelistic work, has taken another important step in its journey. During the 16th General Assembly, held in early June, missionary Maria Marta Teixeira was re-elected as general secretary. The decision, made on the afternoon of the 1st, reflects the community's trust in her ability to serve and coordinate administrative and pastoral activities.

Maria Marta Teixeira Re-elected as General Secretary of Canção Nova Community

Originally from Itaúna, Minas Gerais, Maria Marta is 55 years old and has 25 years of missionary dedication. She joined Canção Nova on January 20, 2001, and has since been a constant presence in various areas of work. Her journey is marked by humble service and commitment to the Kingdom of God.

Maria Marta's re-election is not only a recognition of her work but also a sign of continuity and stability for the community. In times of change, having experienced leadership at the helm of the general secretariat brings security and direction.

A Life of Service in Canção Nova

Over her 25 years of missionary life, Maria Marta has held various roles that prepared her for her current position. She has worked at the Shrine of the Father of Mercies, in local governance (economate), on TV, at DAVI, in Door-to-Door ministry, and in broadcasting. Additionally, she served as mission leader, community house coordinator, and worked in initial formation (discipleship). This range of experiences has given her a broad understanding of the community's needs and challenges.

Maria Marta has also lived in different missions: Cachoeira Paulista (SP), Belo Horizonte (MG), and Queluz (SP). Each move represented an opportunity to learn and serve in diverse contexts. Her ability to adapt and lead in different environments is admired by many.

The apostle Paul reminds us in Romans 12:6-8: "We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is encouraging, then encourage; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is leadership, then lead diligently; if it is showing mercy, then do it cheerfully." Maria Marta exemplifies these gifts in her journey.

The Role of General Secretary in Canção Nova

The position of general secretary is essential for the organization and smooth functioning of the community. This person is responsible for coordinating administrative activities, maintaining communication among members, and ensuring that assembly decisions are implemented. It is a job that requires discretion, efficiency, and above all, a servant's heart.

In the Bible, we see examples of leaders who served with dedication. In Exodus 18, Jethro advises Moses to delegate responsibilities to avoid burnout. Similarly, the general secretary acts as a key support for the presidency and other leaders, allowing the community to function harmoniously.

Maria Marta's re-election shows that she has lived up to that trust. Her experience in various areas equips her to handle the challenges of the office with wisdom and patience.

Fruits of a Faith Journey

Maria Marta's journey is a testimony of faithfulness and perseverance. She began her missionary life 25 years ago and has since seen Canção Nova grow and transform. Her re-election is also a recognition that God continues to call and equip people for service.

In Philippians 1:6, we read: "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus." This promise is fulfilled in the life of Maria Marta and so many other missionaries who dedicate their lives to the Gospel.

For readers, Maria Marta's story is an invitation to reflect: How are we using our gifts in service to the Kingdom? Each of us has an important role in the church, whether as a leader or as a member of the community.
