The election took place during the 16th General Assembly, held in Lavrinhas (SP), and reflects the community's ongoing commitment to its founding charism and the challenges of the contemporary world. In this article, we explore the significance of this election, the perspectives of the new leaders, and how the community is preparing for the next five years.

Canção Nova’s New General Council: Stepping into 2031 with Faith and Renewal

The Election Process: An Act of Faith and Discernment

The assembly, which brought together members from various regions of Brazil, was a time of prayer, reflection, and listening to the Holy Spirit. During the proceedings, participants sought to discern who would be the most suitable leaders to guide the community in the coming years. The electoral process, conducted with transparency and participation, resulted in the selection of names that represent the diversity and unity of Canção Nova.

As it is written in Proverbs 16:9: “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps” (NIV). This truth was present in every stage of the assembly, where trust in divine providence was the foundation of all decisions.

The Members of the New Council

The new General Council is composed of experienced and dedicated missionaries who bring a wealth of service and love for the Church. Among those elected are the president, vice president, and other key roles that will be essential for the management of the coming years. Each of them expressed, during the press conference, their gratitude for the trust placed in them and their willingness to serve with humility and zeal.

The elected president, Father Rogério Luís da Silva, emphasized the importance of staying focused on the community's original charism while seeking innovative ways to reach new generations. “Our ‘yes’ is a response to God’s call to continue the mission entrusted to us. It is not about power, but about service,” he said.

Challenges and Prospects for the 2026–2031 Term

The new Council will face a series of challenges, ranging from financial management to the expansion of evangelistic works. Canção Nova, which operates in areas such as communication, education, and social assistance, will need to adapt to technological and cultural changes without losing its essence.

One of the main focuses will be the formation of missionaries, especially the younger ones, so that they are prepared to proclaim the Gospel in an increasingly secularized world. As 2 Timothy 4:2 teaches: “Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage—with great patience and careful instruction” (NIV).

Communication and Digital Evangelization

Communication has always been a pillar of Canção Nova, and in the new term, the focus is on strengthening the digital presence. With the growth of social media and streaming platforms, the community is seeking creative ways to bring Christ’s message to all corners. The use of artificial intelligence and new media will be explored, always with care to maintain authenticity and depth of faith.

Additionally, the community plans to invest in the formation of Christian communicators, offering courses and workshops that integrate technique and spirituality. “We must not be afraid of new technologies; they are tools that God places in our hands to announce the Kingdom,” highlighted the new vice president.

The Importance of Charism in the Life of the Church

Canção Nova is one of many communities that flourished in the Catholic Church after the Second Vatican Council, with a charism focused on evangelization through the media. This charism, which combines prayer, community life, and mission, continues to be a response to the aspirations of the contemporary world.

The new General Council reaffirms its commitment to living this charism with fidelity and creativity, always seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As Pope Leo XIV said in his first encyclical: “The Church is not a static institution, but a people on a journey, called to constantly renew itself in faith.”
