The Canção Nova Community held its 16th General Assembly from April 24 to May 3, 2026—a special time of listening, sharing, and discernment. During these days, missionaries and community members gathered to evaluate the past five years and plan the next steps under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The meeting featured reports, celebrations, and a spirit of unity that reflects the heart of Canção Nova's mission: to evangelize through every means.
The assembly is not merely an administrative event; it is a space for spiritual renewal. Each participant had the opportunity to share their experiences and insights, strengthening the bonds that unite the community. As Romans 12:4-5 says, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” This passage reminds us that every part of Christ's body is essential for the whole to function.
Review of the Five-Year Period: Achievements and Challenges
The general counselors presented a detailed overview of activities from 2021 to 2026. Advances in communication were highlighted, including the expansion of digital channels and content production reaching millions. Canção Nova also invested in social projects, such as food distribution and support for vulnerable families, especially after the pandemic challenges.
Another key area was missionary formation. Courses, retreats, and training sessions were offered to strengthen spiritual life and service preparation. However, challenges were also acknowledged, such as the need for greater financial sustainability and adaptation to cultural changes. Transparency in accountability was a core value, following the biblical principle of faithfully managing the resources God entrusts to each of us (1 Peter 4:10).
Digital Evangelization: Reaching Hearts Online
A major focus of the five-year period was digital evangelization. Canção Nova expanded its presence on social media, created new internet programs, and developed apps that bring people closer to God's Word. The goal is to be where people are, bringing hope and faith in an increasingly connected world. As Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). This mandate is renewed with each generation, and today includes the digital realm.
Looking Ahead: Hope and Mission
The assembly also looked to the future. Priorities for the next five years were discussed, such as strengthening local communities, caring for missionaries' mental health, and continuing innovation in communication. The community reaffirmed its commitment to unity and diversity of charisms, always in harmony with the Church.
A moving moment was the prayer for the new Pope, Leo XIV, elected in May 2025. Members of Canção Nova expressed their support and asked for blessings on his pontificate. The transition after Pope Francis's death in April 2025 was lived with faith and hope, trusting that the Holy Spirit guides the Church in every era.
The Role of Young People in the Mission
Young people were a focal point in discussions. Projects to engage the next generation were presented, including camps, faith schools, and volunteer programs. Canção Nova believes that young people are protagonists of evangelization, as 1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”
A Final Word: Living in Communion
The 16th General Assembly ended with a Eucharistic celebration, renewing each member's commitment to be instruments of unity and love in the world. The community moves forward with the certainty that, guided by the Holy Spirit, it will continue its mission to bring the Gospel to every corner.
