From October 5 to 9, 2026, the coastal town of Golem, Albania, will host the fifth edition of Hope for Europe, a Christian gathering organized by the European Evangelical Alliance. This event will bring together hundreds of Christian leaders from across Europe around the theme "Hope in the Face of Crisis." The goal is clear: to create a space for connection, unity, and reflection so that participants can together bring the hope of Jesus Christ to the peoples of the continent.
Europe is going through difficult times: economic crises, rising nationalism, secularization, and geopolitical uncertainties. In this context, Hope for Europe 2026 aims to be a prophetic response, a call not to lose sight of the hope that is within us. As the apostle Paul reminds us in his letter to the Romans: "May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit" (Romans 15:13, NIV).
A Space for Listening and Sharing
Hope for Europe is not a typical conference where speakers deliver talks from a podium. Instead, the organizers emphasize listening, sharing, and collaboration. As they put it: "The answer is in the room." Participants are invited to exchange strategies, best practices, and valuable ideas so that more people can find hope in Jesus.
This participatory approach values everyone's experience and creates a genuine synergy among Christians from different cultures and traditions. Unity in diversity is a powerful testimony to the world. Jesus himself prayed that his disciples would be one, so that the world might believe (John 17:21).
An Action-Oriented Program
Workshops, prayer times, and reflection sessions will be designed to lead to concrete actions. It's not just about talking about hope, but living it and sharing it. Christian leaders will leave with tools and ideas to impact their local communities.
"That is why we labor and strive, because we have put our hope in the living God, who is the Savior of all people, and especially of those who believe." (1 Timothy 4:10, NIV)
A Legacy of Gatherings
Hope for Europe already has a rich history. The previous four editions were held in Budapest (Hungary) in 2002 and 2011, Tallinn (Estonia) in 2018, and Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in 2022. Each edition gathered several hundred European evangelical leaders, creating lasting bonds and joint initiatives.
The choice of Albania for 2026 is also symbolic. This Balkan country, marked by a communist past and a strong religious tradition, is now a place of spiritual rebirth. By hosting this gathering, Albania shows its openness and desire to contribute to Christian unity in Europe.
