How to spot scams and protect yourself

EncuentraIglesias is a public space for spiritual edification. It is not a private social network: there are no direct messages, no photo sharing, and no exchange of personal contact details. This guide helps you recognize scam attempts and what to do if one happens.

⚠️ Warning signs

Be suspicious if someone in the community:

  • Asks you for money, donations, private "offerings", loans, or promises of a "financial blessing" or "seed offering" with guaranteed return.
  • Asks for personal data: phone number, address, email, bank account, ID photos, passwords, or verification codes.
  • Has a tragic, very detailed story (recently widowed, missionary pastor, sick child, military overseas) that ends with a request for financial help.
  • Offers miracles, guaranteed healings, personal prophecies, or "anointings" in exchange for something.
  • Wants to move you to another platform (WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, private call, personal email). No one in this community needs to message you in private.
  • Pressures you with urgency: "answer quickly", "only today", "don't tell anyone".
  • Wants to meet you alone, come to your home, or have you go to a private place.
  • Promises business opportunities, crypto, "Christian investments", MLMs, or "work from home" with fast returns.

🔒 Rules we enforce automatically

  • No external links in posts or comments.
  • No phone numbers, emails, or handles from other networks (WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, etc.).
  • No requests or offers of money, banking data, or payments.
  • No coordinating private meetings or calls off-platform.
  • No image uploads in posts. Avatars come from a closed catalog.
  • No direct messages between users. All interaction is public.

If a post contains any of the above, the system rejects it before publication or hides it for review. This reduces scams, but no automatic filter is perfect: if something slips through, report it.

📢 What to do if you suspect a scam

  1. Do not reply to the suspicious message. Send no money, no data, no photos.
  2. Do not leave the platform. If someone invites you to talk in private, that alone is enough reason to report.
  3. Report the post or comment using the ⋮ menu in the corner of the post → "Report". Pick the closest reason (scam = "Spam" or "Other" with description).
  4. Mentally block the urgency. Scams work because they pressure. Wait 24 hours before any decision involving money or personal data.
  5. If the contact was by email impersonating EncuentraIglesias, forward it to abuso@encuentraiglesias.com. We will never ask for banking details by email.
  6. If a minor is involved or you suspect exploitation, report immediately and, if you believe a crime is in progress, contact the authorities in your country.

🚫 What we will never do

  • We will never ask for your password.
  • We will never ask for money, donations, or "offerings" by private message.
  • We will never contact you on WhatsApp, Telegram, or social media.
  • We will never ask for banking data, verification codes, or ID photos.
  • No team member will message you privately asking for anything. All official communication comes from @encuentraiglesias.com emails.
